The Hottest Monopoly Board Games

The Monopoly line of board games has been providing wholesome entertainment to families and friends since the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to Elizabeth “Lizzie” Magie. At that time, however, Magie’s board game was called “Landlord’s Game” and her intention was not to involve the concept of monopoly in businesses, but to educate people of the potential negative effects of sole ownerships of land properties, i.e. greedy landlords exploiting poor tenants (hmm, sounds socially deep but also interesting).

The history and evolution of this real-estate and property trading board game is quite convoluted, marred by controversy and intrigue (just like how monopolies in business are in real life), so we won’t delve into those – well, not in this article just yet (wink).

Eventually, the Parker Brothers toy company got the rights to manufacture, sell, and distribute the board game as we know it right now. Today, the Monopoly series of board games is in the good hands of Hasbro Gaming, and has developed other related games and offshoots.
