The Most Iconic Superheroes of DC Comics

Some people think that the best century is the 20th century, and most parents of today can take pride that they enjoyed its last few decades. The last century may or may not have been the best, but what we do know is that the 20th century has given us one of the most epic and long-running mythologies of modern pop culture – SUPERHEROES!

Indeed, the 20th century is a memorable period for fans of comic books and superheroes – whether they have lived through that time or not. It was during the 20th century that the comic book industry and superhero stories began, and it was in that same era that the industry’s Golden Age and Silver Age occurred. While some comics back then contained non-superhero strips, comics was the media where people got to know about the first ever superhero. Superheroes and comics are so intertwined that you cannot separate their history. Nowadays, we can enjoy superhero stories on TV, movies, and various media – and that includes toys and other merchandise.

Here’s a trivia question: Who do you think is the first ever superhero? While some historians and pop culture pundits may claim something else, we can say that Superman is the first superhero that ever got to be popular. In fact, it’s the Man of Steel himself who started the Golden Age of Superheroes in 1938 with Action Comics #1.

Now, here’s your second trivia question: What’s the name of the publishing company that introduced Superman to the world? National Allied Publication gave us the first superhero, and it’s the same company that we now know as DC Comics. And here’s the thing – the succeeding superhero characters after Superman’s first publication, which comprised the Golden Age, were also from DC Comics. The initials DC, in fact, were taken from Detective Comics, the comic book that published the first Batman story.

So yes, DC superheroes ruled the Golden Age of Comics! In this article, Mr Toys gives tribute to the iconic superheroes of DC Comics that remain to be popular among today’s kids, adult fans, and geeks.

The Flash

Like Superman and Batman, Flash has other aliases. He has been called as the Crimson Comet (during the Golden Age), Scarlet Speedster, and the Fastest Man Alive. But unlike Batman and Superman, there have been several characters who became the superhero known as the Flash. Jay Garrick, Barry Allen (the Flash we know today), Wally West, and Bart Allen (grandson of Barry) are the most popular iterations.

Green Lantern

Now here is one DC hero the Flash can relate to. Green Lantern is another superhero who had many alter-egos. The first character who wore the "Green Ring of Power" or Power Ring was Allan Scott. The second was Hal Jordan, followed by Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Kyle Rayner among many others. And don’t forget the Green Lantern Core! It just goes to show that being a “Green Lantern” is not reserved to Earthlings only.
