Volleyball is a fast-paced team sport that can be played indoors or outdoors. You can play it on the beach, at the park, in your backyard, or on a real volleyball court.

The object of the game is to prevent the ball from hitting the floor of your team’s side of the court, while volleying the ball to the other side. The team that successfully forces the other team to commit a mistake gets a point.

Required Equipment to Play Volleyball

The Ball

The type of ball required in volleyball depends on the kind of volleyball you play. Balls in volleyball differ in size, weight, and composition. For beach volleyball, each team consists of 2 players only and the game is played on a smaller sand court, using a more massive, lighter ball. On the other hand, indoor volleyball is played with 6 players in each team and done on a bigger court, using a more solid, faster ball made of leather.

Net and Poles

The net divides the volleyball court into 2 halves. The height of the net varies based on the sex of the players (men’s volleyball and women’s volleyball) and the surface being played on. You also need poles on which to hang the net.
