Lithium Polymer or Lithium Ion (Li-Po or Li-Ion) Battery Charging, Storage and Safety Recommendations

While Lithium Polymer and Lithium Ion batteries have contributed to today’s Radio Control models having amazing performance, these batteries are very different to older types of rechargeable batteries. A failure to follow correct usage guidelines can be dangerous. Please follow guidelines below and ask staff for advice.

Important Safety Guidelines

Always consult the manufacturer's instructions for the battery and charger.

Always charge and store batteries in a Li-Po / Li-Ion safe charge bag.

Never leave battery unattended while charging.

Always ensure battery is on a non-flammable surface while charging.

Never charge a Li-Po/ Li-Ion battery pack that has been dropped or damaged/punctured or that has ballooned or swelled due to over/under-charging.

If charging on a multi charger always check you use correct settings for that battery. Charging with wrong settings can lead to fire, explosions and toxic smoke.     

Never, under ANY circumstances let the positive and negative battery leads touch. This can lead to cell ballooning, cell damage, fire or an explosion.

If you notice your Li-Po/ Li-Ion battery pack is swelling, disconnect the charging device immediately. If necessary, put the battery in a non-combustible bucket or container and observe it for 15 minutes.

Always disconnect battery from charger after charging, never leave battery connected to vehicle after use.
