Throughout the years, the wonderful world of Disney has provided kids and grownups with great entertainment that spans many generations. Disney movies and shows have given the world a variety of characters, and many of them are now classic favourites that continue to delight and inspire generations of children across the world.

How Many Official Disney Princesses Movies Are There (as of 2022)?

Since the early years of the film industry, Disney has been known for its animated movies and most of these are from timeless fairy tales featuring well-known princesses. However, that did not stop Disney from re-telling the stories of historical princesses – in its own Disney way!

So not counting the live action versions, there are 15 official Disney Princess movies – theatrically released – as of 2022!

1. Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs (1937)

2. Cinderella (1950)

3. Sleeping Beauty (1959)

Sleeping Beauty tells the story of Princess Aurora and the evil curse placed on her by vengeful fairy Maleficent. According to the prophecy, Aurora will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a deep slumber on her 16th birthday, from which only the kiss of her true love can awaken her. Three doting fairies — Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather — pose as peasant women to raise the young princess, whom they call Briar Rose, and live deep in the forest where Maleficent cannot find her. One day while riding in the woods, Prince Phillip catches sight of Briar Rose and the 2 fall in love at first sight! Rose learns from the fairies that she is a princess and must return to the castle immediately to fulfil her royal duties. There, Maleficent discovers Aurora alone in the tower. Phillip rushes to the castle to rescue Aurora, but first he must battle Maleficent, who assumes the form of a fierce, fire-spouting dragon.

4. The Little Mermaid (1989)

Ariel, the fun-loving and mischievous mermaid, is enchanted with all things human! Disregarding her father’s order to stay away from the world above the sea, she swims to the surface and, in a raging storm, rescues the prince of her dreams, Eric. 8. Mulan (1998)

10. Tangled (2010)

13. Moana (2016)

14. Frozen II (2019)

Six years after the box-office hit and critically acclaimed Disney’s Frozen comes Frozen II. It’s the first Disney Princess movie sequel that was released theatrically!

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? What truths about the past await Elsa as she ventures into the unknown to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond Arendelle? The answers are calling her but also threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven, she'll face a dangerous but remarkable journey. 15. Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)

The fantasy world of Kumandra was where humans and dragons lived together in harmony long ago. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Five hundred years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior princess, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon and restore the fractured land and its divided people.
